Growing up along the lush undulating coastline of California evoked Eileen Lang’s lifelong fascination with organic form. Her training to be a ballerina furthermore cultivated an appreciation for fluid motion. After an unfortunate injury redirected her creative energies towards painting, she graduated from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.

Whether moving, living, simple or complex, it is incredible how the process of nature can create such masterpieces.

Using photography paper as a surface, Lang utilizes the unpredictable behavior of acrylic, India and sumi inks to create paintings inspired by the ancient techniques of the Far East Suminagashi masters. The message of each work is determined by the interaction of ink on paper and with the viewer. The individual paintings go unnamed to provide the freedom for the work to evoke a unique and unbiased emotion, authentic to each individual viewer.

Today, Lang lives in New York, where she frequently visits the adjacent coastlines to reinforce her bond with the natural world.
